GENEALOGY RESEARCH
Our society is a non-profit organization consisting of an all-volunteer staff. Our goal is to “Preserve the Past for the Future.”
Our library consists of County cemetery records (with headstones), census records, thousands of obituary records, Advocate and Democrat (late 1800’s) newspapers, Ridgway Record microfilm tapes from 1903 to present, family histories, county histories, Ridgway history, industrial histories, high school yearbooks, and Ridgway Town directories. Courthouse records are available for research. Courthouse copies are .50 per sheet.
Genealogy requests are preferred by mail. If sending an email request please include your full name and mailing address to send the information. Family information will not be sent via email. Non-members who visit the society for research pay a fee of $5 plus .25 per copy. Members who visit the society pay no fee for research but pay .25 per copy. If you request only one item (obituary-wedding), the fee is $5 for non-members.
Letters sent to the society will be billed according to quantity of information, time to gather information, plus copies and postage. Our fees are reasonable.
The information request form may assist both the requestor and genealogist in determining how much information the requestor already has and where information is lacking, so duplicate information is not charged.
Please fill out the form and mail to: Elk County Historical Society Attn.: Mrs. Helen Hughes 109 Center Street P.O. Box 361 Ridgway, PA 15853 |
